Do you know people who always have the same problems? Their last colleagues were supposedly incompetent, and the new ones are incompetent again. Their previous boss was an idiot, and so is the current one. Or in their private lives: they rave euphorically about their new happiness. But once again, the fire quickly dies out—until the next partner comes along. Many want to learn from their mistakes. But in the future, their past awaits them with a grin. There is no shortage of good intentions. What is lacking is actual transformation. Because only when a lesson is thoroughly understood and internalized will it never return.
The starting point of any transformation is the courageous recognition of reality in the form of results and effects. Relentlessly, without excuse. Recognition comes first. The second, more difficult step is acknowledgment, the emotional acceptance of what has been recognized. When a drinker says, "I drink a lot of alcohol," they have recognized their problem. But only those who admit, "I am an alcoholic," are ready for therapy. Only then does the transformation begin. At this point, many who recognize but do not acknowledge fail. They blame others for what they themselves should learn. Inexperienced leader, inconsistent parents, and weak teachers do exactly that.
The key to transformation lies within you
When you set out on your own path, it helps to know that the key to transformation lies "within you" and not outside. It's quite simple:
"Recognize" = look for solutions externally.
"Recognizing" = looking for a solution within.
Every transformation goes through four stages from "unconscious incompetence" to "unconscious competence"—a matrix that reveals your next step in development. It helps you lead yourself and others:
- Unconscious incompetence: Repression. The phase of "not wanting to see" or "not being able to see." You produce poor results without knowing what you are missing—until you take an honest look at yourself.
- Conscious incompetence: Insight and recognition. You realize that you are missing your goals. Your words and actions do not match. You are dissatisfied, and so is your environment. Your emotional Change Competence slowly becomes Change Competence . At the end of this phase, you are able to face your shortcomings.
- Conscious competence: Recognition. You have learned through hard work and are finally taking action. But the new behavior is not yet deeply ingrained. To others, you appear to be trying hard, but not yet consistent. However, if you remain consistent, your level of emotional recognition will increase. Many people do not want to pay the full price here. What about you? Are you ready for the transformation, or are you still looking for a shortcut?
- Unconscious competence: Finally at your goal. You deliver intuitively. The quality of your results is constantly improving. The people under your responsibility develop – quite naturally. You are confident and competent. Your charisma is convincing. What a wonderful state to be in! It's worth every penny.
Your transformation is successful when your results skyrocket. As an engineer, you are bursting with ideas for solutions. As a service provider, your customers become more satisfied. As a salesperson, your sales and profits increase. As a parent, you enjoy watching your children grow into strong personalities who surpass you. And as leader , you leader your employees responsibility more and more responsibility and delivering higher-quality results. And maybe you'll allow this blog to be the catalyst for one of your next steps toward growth. We would be very happy if you did.
Because we have transformed ourselves too!
From the "Grundl Leadership Academy" to the "Grundl Leadership Institute." At the beginning of the year, we reset everything and questioned ourselves. Was it easy? Not at all! Was it necessary? Yes! Because only in this way can we keep pace with the revolutionary developments brought about by digitalization, globalization, and rapid economic growth.
We asked ourselves the following questions:
- Identity: Who are we?
- Guiding principles: What ideas guide us?
- Delimitation: Who are we not?
- Implementation: How do we intend to achieve this?
You can find the results on our new website: grundl-institut.de
