Self-functionality: How to manage yourself better during a crisis

How do I achieve self-functionality? It's a cumbersome term, especially in these times of increasing home office work. It's about maintaining focus and performing at a consistently high level – concentrating on the essentials. Agile working and self-functionality go hand in hand. Because only when you know how to increase your own self-functionality can you lead others to their self-functionality.

How can I increase my own self-functionality and that of others?

It is always self-awareness, or rather self-management skills, that help us to lead others. However, this is not the case if we are simply capable of doing so—it only works if we also know the methodology and didactics behind it. You can get a basic overview of this here before you register for a leadership seminar.

To do this, you need certain formulas:

Commitment = Goals x Self-confidence

  • Commitment refers to the desire to get involved—a kind of creative energy. It's about motivation and drive.
  • Goals mean having a picture of where you want to go. The more precise this picture is, the more energy it generates. But it's also about how clear the intermediate goals are. Because only they make up the overall picture.

The other question is: How big is your "why"? Only those who have emotionally and mentally embraced the goal of self-functionality can take their energy to a new level.

Consider your goal on a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 represents a low energy level and 10 represents a high energy level. How much have you mentally embraced your goal?

  • Self-confidence gives us inner security. But be careful: we often have a self-confidence that stems from the image we would like to have and embodies something we are not really. It is important to recognize this.

How strong is your inner security? Does your self-confidence lie in your image or in yourself?

Rate your self-confidence on a scale of 0 to 10. This will help you identify where you still have room for improvement and where you already have sufficient self-confidence.

Competence = Knowledge x Experience

  • Competence is also an important component in self-functionality and self-management, which is based on two levels:
  • Knowledge about a situation can offer a certain degree of security. If you take dealing with a crisis as an example, knowledge is extremely reassuring. Knowledge provides security and at the same time has a lot to do with our self-confidence—it makes us more competent.

Rate your knowledge on a scale of 0 to 10. Classify different areas of expertise.

  • Experience is applied knowledge transformed into results. Once you have achieved results, you will have greater self-confidence and set yourself bigger goals based on your experience. These are extremely important: they help us to set appropriate goals.

Rate your experience on a scale of 0 to 10. Classify different levels of experience.

To summarize once again:

  • How clearly can I set goals and milestones and also take mental ownership of them?
  • How high is my self-confidence and what needs to happen for me to increase it?
  • How much knowledge do I really have in a significant area, and what is my level of experience?

Once you have assigned all variables a value between 0 and 10 on the scale, add them together.

What values do you achieve?

35-40: Congratulations! Your self-functionality is at an extremely high level.

30-35: Keep it up! You're well on your way to self-functionality.

<30: Ihre Selbstfunktionalität befindet sich noch auf einem recht niedrigen Niveau. Arbeiten Sie daran. Es lohnt sich!

We wish you all the best on your journey to becoming the best person you can be.
