If you only ever look at the big picture, you will miss important details—such as the fine print in contracts. If you only ever focus on the details, you will lose sight of the big picture and fail to follow a vision. The contrast between these mental attitudes is often a major source of conflict in self-management as well as in relationships. Even in executive offices, the focus is usually on the big picture, while in the anteroom, attention to detail tends to prevail.

Once you have gained an overview and an understanding of the context, it is important to also create orientation in the details. Priorities can only be clearly defined through both mental states.
