"The Grundl Leadership Institute researches and teaches high-quality distinctions so that your life becomes your best teacher."When you read this sentence, how do you understand it and what does it trigger in you?
This sentence is our guiding principle. All of us at the institute serve this overarching idea and create awareness for high-quality distinctions."What do you mean by distinctions?" we hear you ask. We are happy to provide you with an answer:
Distinctions are defined as fundamental activities of thought. They consist of actively identifying or clarifying differences, variations, and otherness. This makes them a prerequisite for perception and cognition. We all deal with distinctions on a daily basis, often going from one extreme to the other.
An example: "magnifying glass sprinkler
On the one hand, the sprinkler the attitude of wanting to have everything. On the other hand, there is the attitude of the focused specialist, that of the magnifying glass. Over the course of their lives, everyone should increasingly become a magnifying glass effectiveness. Because you have a choice: either to be average at many things or exceptionally good at a few things.
Imagine: You get up in the morning and drive to work. Before you start, you ask yourself, "What needs to be done today?" Sprinklers ask themselves this question and start working through their tasks. In doing so, many lose themselves in "being busy" and "having a lot to do." The dangerous thing about this is that sprinklers quickly slip into "wanting to be needed." Popularity and security become more important than responsibility and clarity. Sprinkler people don't look at the results they deliver, but at the status they would like to have.
The key question for a leader is: How can I make myself leader as leader while the results keep getting better? Or, in other words: How can I increasingly become a magnifying glass? You can achieve this by asking yourself the following questions every morning before you start your day:
What do I want to have accomplished by the end of the day?
Which result today has the greatest impact on the company?
Boris Grundl says:
You can only find the answers to these questions if you consistently develop people and help them grow. So far, so good. For this to succeed, I need to develop my thinking and thus my identity. I need to transform myself. The transformation process usually follows the same pattern: first, I experience one extreme, then the opposite extreme, and finally I find the "golden mean" on a higher level.
Two examples: It is becoming increasingly clear to me that I do many things just to be needed. I am counteracting this and do not want to be needed under any circumstances. From the experience of this opposite pole, I can now find the balance between "being needed" and "being independent."
Or I realize that I am blending in too much with the crowd and don't have my own profile. So I focus on my individuality and want to do "my own thing" at all costs. Until I finally find the "golden mean" between individuality and collectivity. Every transformation goes through this triad: recognizing, acknowledging, and resolving. In exactly that order, but on a deeper, emotional level."
Distinctions in everyday life
To give you an insight into the daily challenges we face at the Grundl Leadership Institute, we have launched a TV format on the Instagram channel @borisgrundl – Insights from the Grundl Leadership Institute. There, we report on distinctions that concern us and that need to be transformed personally. This is not an easy school of thought and challenges each and every one of us. The key is to apply what we teach others to ourselves. So that our lives also become the best teachers.
What distinctions are you currently dealing with? Where do you see your obstacles and challenges? We are eager to hear about your experiences. And we would be even more delighted if you followed the distinctions on our Instagram TV channel, liked them, and left comments about your experiences. Feel free to send us your requests for a look at distinctions that are on your mind.
